Christie's Old Organ

Solidly Christian, sweet family book.

Plot

Old Treffy has one beloved possession, his old barrel-organ. Young Christie's only possession is the memory of his mother singing "Home, Sweet Home" on her deathbed. When these two join together to help each other, can the old organ help them find the Home they so desire?

Morality

Very good. Treffy says that he has done many bad things in his past, of which he has fully repented. Some minor characters are cold and self-focused, but this is contrasted by the selfless love of the followers of Jesus.

Spiritual Content

Many spiritual discussions and readings from Scripture. A good portion of the story is devoted to Treffy and Christie's search for the way to Heaven, despite their sins, and then serving Jesus once they've found Him. There is mention of Hell.

Violence

Characters suffer from cold and hunger. Two characters die of illness.

Drug and Alcohol Content

Characters are given medicine when sick.

Sexual Content

None.

Crude or Profane Language or Content

None.

Conclusion

Christie's Old Organ is a touching story that is full of biblical truth and loving portrayals of Jesus. Mabel and her mother are excellent models for believers, in their love and Christ-focus. I appreciated that the book didn't stop with salvation, but continued to show living for Jesus, because of love for Him. It also shows God's purpose in everything and how He works in all circumstances to bring His children to Him.
